Soft Puzzles
In a manner similar to the device at the center of “Video Aquarium” the Soft Puzzles, constructed from the “skins” of camera equipment, are a way of thinking about the contemporary form of the “black box”, ie; a system whose internal workings are assumed to be opaque. This is a term borrowed from computer engineering, but I use it here as it relates to
general assumptions about transparency or self-evidence, of which photography is the contemporary sine qua non. Rather than attempting to look inside or debunk these assumptions, the Soft Puzzles imagine a form of warp and correlation out of it’s ancillary material. They are speculative topologies of conspiracy.
